Black Bloggers who addressed and shut down the insidious racist and demeaning pseudo-scientific research by evolutionary psychologist, Satoshi Kanazawa, should be proud of themselves. Kanazawa published an article exploring why "Black Women are Less Attractive" on Psychology Today several weeks ago, and was justly met with harsh criticism and opposition.
On Friday, Psychology Today issued a formal apology stating that:
We deeply apologize for the pain and offense that this post caused. Psychology Today's mission is to inform the public, not to provide a platform for inflammatory and offensive material. Psychology Today does not tolerate racism or prejudice of any sort.
Soon after the post on Psychology Today, the well-established publication had to pull the article due to the flood of comments and emails sent by people all over the world. It was after the criticism did they decide to review the research only find out, that measuring beauty is a subjective process, and could never be objective.
Because democracy isn't a spectator sport, and because some of youse Negroes just don't get it. Allow me to present to you a few folks who do actually get it, who are making demands of their electorate. You know, the same democratic tradition which has long existed in this country? Well, for me it's good to see people - especially people of color - rise up and let their voices be heard. After all, many of our ancestors died for the right to vote as we're always reminded.
However, voting or casting a ballot, though important and very significant, is only the first step in affecting change since democracy is what happens between elections. And just in case you forgot, people in several urban centers while catching hell are being further victiomized (see Baltimore foreclosures here) and marginalized by proposed budget cuts, while wealthy corporations play with our money, as handed out by the government via tax loopholes:
I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thng, but apparently racism is on a decline here in America. Well, maybe not America entirely; but at least out in Los Angeles. I mean, I could be wrong; hell, I'm just a freelance racism chaser with a blog. But when professionals like the Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP stars finding racism in the Hallmark card section of Walmart, what are people like me supposed to think:
CULVER CITY, Calif. (KABC) — A graduation card sold at local stores has been pulled from shelves after a civil rights group raised concerns about the content. The group claims the card’s micro-speaker plays a greeting that’s racist.
It is a graduation greeting from Hallmark that says, “Hey world, we are officially putting you on notice.”
Members of the Los Angeles NAACP did take notice. As characters known as “Hoops” and “Yoyo” banter on, African American leaders hear offensive language.
“And you black holes, you are so ominous. Watch your back,” the card vocalizes.
“That was very demeaning to African American women. When it made reference to African American women as whores and at the end, it says ‘watch your back,’” said Leon Jenkins of the Los Angeles NAACP.
When Hallmark was reached by phone, they said the card is all a misunderstanding. The card’s theme is the solar system and emphasizes the power of the grad to take over the universe, even energy-absorbing black holes.
The card company says the card speaks about the power the grad will wield.
“The intent here is to say that this graduate is not afraid of anything,” explained Hallmark spokesman Steve Doyal.
But that’s not what some people heard.
“You hear the ‘r’ in there. ‘Whores,’ not, ‘holes.’ The ‘r’ is in there,” said Minnie Hatley of the Los Angeles NAACP.
Hallmark sent Eyewitness News a transcript of what the card says, but Hatley says that the actual audio raises questions.
I don't know if you agree with the NAACP on this one or not. All I can say is that obviously out in L.A. things have changed. Once upon a time minorities were caught on tape being beaten by cops; being acquitted of murdering rich white women; and, rioting while throwing the occasional brick at unsuspecting white truck drivers!
But not today, folks; and the NAACP has obviously done a fine job of eradicating the once racial climate that was Los Angeles. Hell, I might just pack up my family and move out there. Shit, at least I won't have to worry about some graduation card calling one of my daughters a "black hole." I mean that's obviously worse than being called a bitch by one of those Compton gangster rappers, right? Oh snap!! I forgot the NAACP was successful in stopping those gangster rappers when they buried the word "nigger" a few years ago.
It's been kinda quiet on the front lines in the struggle lately. I'm guessing this is why a few Negroes out in Oakland saw it fit to use the senseless killing of Lovelle Mixon as thenew movement for justice. Yup, that's what's wrong right now with my brothers and sisters on the front lines; we're running low on causes.
I was told by someone over herethat we should selebrate Mixon because White people celebrate Billy the Kid and John Dillinger. Umm, can you tell me how you feel about that one? That said, compliments of fellow blogger Siditty (you guys should check her out her blog), I will now present to you, something definitely worth protesting, or even fighting for.

Ok, I have to confess. When I first saw this video I laughed just a little bit. Ok yeah, so I thought it was kinda funny. Though the video was funny, it is still yet a worthy cause worth the fight; yes, racism is just that important to fight. The thought of this commercial being ran on TV here in this country made it even funnier. Why? Because I could see Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson leading a boycott of this fried chicken franchise, and some of us being conflicted on doing it. What? Don't act like you don't like fried chicken.
But hey, we all need to get together as a people, and stand firm for our melanin afflicted brothers and sisters over in Korea right now. There aren't too many of them over there, so they sure can use our voices in support. Yup, this week fried chicken, next week we'll work on watermelons.
