Prop 8 Overturned and why Folk don't give a fvck!

By guest blogger Folk

It doesn't change shyt! The overturning of Prop 8 hasn't changed a gawt d@mned thing! Same sex couples still can't marry within the state and an appeal is 100% likely! So.... It's nothing more than move to the next step and hope the supreme court takes a listen. However, it is a victory. So congrats to Folk's lesbian and gay readers out there. But Folk digress.

But the real reason Folk don't give a fvck... Well, actually there are four reasons why Folk don't give a fvck.

They didn't ask, and she didn't tell. So why did she get kicked out of the military for being a lesbian? Repeal DADT right now!!

Yesterday, four-star Army General David Petraeus told a Senate panel that "the time has come" for the military to rethink its stance on gays in the military. Good to hear that the time has finally come and if I had the chance to ask, I'd like to know what the hell took so long. Or more specifically, why is it still even an issue when the president has the power by executive order to have it repealed. I mean, we are at war on two fronts, no? Doesn't the Commander in Chief have the power of executive order to put an end to this?

Of course Petraeus' line could be seen as just lip service until further action; which can be quite frustrating for opponents and activists against the current policy. Especially the men and women who have served their country only to be kicked to the curb as a result of being outed. You know, people like former Air Force Sargeant Jenne Newsome pictured above? Yep, her dismissal has to be one of the most bizzare to date; at least that's what I think about it and the questions it raises:
Jene Newsome played by the rules as an Air Force sergeant: She never told anyone in the military she was a lesbian. The 28-year-old's honorable discharge under the "don't ask, don't tell" policy came only after police officers in Rapid City, S.D., saw an Iowa marriage certificate in her home and told the nearby Ellsworth Air Force Base.

The Rapid City Police Department says Newsome, an aircraft armament system craftsman who spent nine years in the Air Force, was not cooperative when they showed up at her home in November with an arrest warrant for her partner, who was wanted on theft charges in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Newsome was at work at the base at the time and refused to immediately come home and assist the officers in finding her partner, whom she married in Iowa - where gay marriage is legal - in October.

Police officers, who said they spotted the marriage license on the kitchen table through a window of Newsome's home, alerted the base, police Chief Steve Allender said. The license was relevant to the investigation because it showed both the relationship and residency of the two women, he said. (Source)
So lemme get this right: they took a peek in her window and saw her marriage license? Um, and they were able to call the base and relay this information which subsequently lead to her dismissal? I don't know about you, but that just doesn't seem right to me. What it is, is an invasion of privacy, plain and simple. Hopefully the complaint she has filed against the police department in conjunction with the ACLU goes somewhere because this just doesn't seem right. Newsome is of the opinion that the cops did what they did in retaliation for her refusal to come to her home to assist them in the apprehension of her partner. You know what? I believe her.

How are you gonna be against gay rights, and you get a DUI after leaving a gay bar?

So I'm seeing shades of Larry Craig on this one; remember him and that infamous gay bathroom? Well, how about this for a dose of good ol' Republican/Conservative hypocrisy 2010 style from (R-Calif) State Senator, Roy Ashburn; a reported staunch anti-gay rights legislation supporter:
Early Wednesday morning, State Sen. Roy Ashburn (R-Calif.) was pulled over and arrested for drunk driving. Sources report that Ashburn -- a fierce opponent of gay rights -- was driving drunk after leaving a gay nightclub; when the officer stopped the state-issued vehicle, there was an unidentified man in the passenger seat of the car. (source)
Ashburn has since apologized for what he called "poor judgement." But the jury is still out on whether he was referencing the choice of driving drunk, or that of being a closet homosexual with an anti-gay legislation stance. Oh well, maybe someone slipped him a mickey in his drink before he went into the club, hence him not realizing where he was. Yep, when in doubt, always blame it on alcohol; and, add the mickey theory for great effect. Being a Republican who champions for family values and all that other good shit?

People will believe your story.

I'm not gay, and because of it, I'm not going to hell

Well, yeah, I'm not gay, and thank God I'm not because I just so happen to be the marrying type. I love the "sanctity" of marriage so much that I'm on my second go-around at it. Which when I think the idea of gay marriage I just wanna reach out and slap all gay people in America currently bitching about not being able to enjoy the blissful sanctimonious institution that I - a heterosexual male - has the privilege of enjoying. I mean they scream about equality but yet fail to realize that the government - be it state or federal - is actually looking out for them.

That's right; the government's just doing its part to ensure that gay people get to heaven. I mean its bad enough that they engage in those un-godly perverse sex acts which goes against all of God's laws of intercourse written in the fine print in the bible. But no, now they want marriage equality? How the hell are they supposed to get into heaven if they're allowed to do that? If you ask me, denying them the right to marry does them a huge favor. And no I'm not talking about having to be a part of the 50% divorce statistic.

But like I said, thankfully I'm not gay and I don't have to worry about violating God's law of marriage as presented in the bible. My current wife and my ex both had a child before we tied the knot; a child by someone other than myself. And all I can say is that it's a good thing the bible recognizes virgin births because I'd sure hate to have to kill them both under the watchful auspices of the “Most High” heterosexual because being gay wasn’t his choice.

Sorry gay folks, but youse people should just repent for your sins now so you can direct the choir in heaven as you already do here on earth every Sunday. Besides, be thankful that you don't have to meet the fate as those lying-ass non-virgin heterosexual women who get married. Yep, it's better to be alive and gay than a dead heterosexual "Just Married" woman the morning after the marriage is consummated as we do, right?

There's a gay demon on the loose!!

Holy shit! You mean to tell me that there’s a gay demon running around and nobody told me?!! No seriously, you mean to tell me that all that talk about being born gay was a lie? No for real, you mean to tell me that all this time it’s been Casper the friendly but homosexual ghost?? Shit, how do I protect myself from that thing? Ok y’all, maybe I’m a little late on this or maybe I’m just not up on the bible and religion. I don’t know if you’ve heard the story, but apparently this gay teenager in Connecticut was recently at some church or another and, well, the Black dude from the movie Ghost Busters performed an exorcism on him. Which is kinda cool because I always wondered what the Black Ghost Buster dude has been up to since OZ went off the air – hey, a brotha gotta get paid, right?

Check it out:

How come it took so long for this gay ghost to be outted. I mean, whenever I have conversations about homosexuality with Christians they always say that homosexuality is a choice. Well, what is it? Is it a choice or a demon? Do straight people by choice have sex with gay demons which in turn makes them gay?!?! Ok, so now I’m confused and I’m gonna need one of you reading this to explain this shit to me. But anyway, this 16yr old kid was on the Tryra Banks show recently talking about his experience and just how his life has changed since. Which is real ironic because I heard Patrick Swayze is gonna be on The View next week. But the only problem with that is that he can only talk to Whoopi Goldberg.

Check out the interview:

I’m more confused than ever folks. First off, if you were gay by the actions of a gay demon who somehow took over your body obviously by anally raping you (because it’s a choice). Now that the demon is gone, why do you still have homosexual temptations? Secondly, and probably what should have been the first question since it came to me about 20 seconds into the interview. Um, how come dude still talks with that gay lisp? Am I the only one who spotted that? And last and probably not least pending the responses this post gets, and totally unrelated: how come the gay demon is allowed to live in choir directors at churches? Do gay demons get a pass only if they can carry a tune?

Jokes aside...

do you believe this or is this just how religion affects the human mind?

Are there as many gay demons as there are people in the LGBT community?

Talk to me somebody…

Black Folks, Black Church, Homophobes! Gather Around; Let's Talk!!

Earlier this week on the very same day Judge Sonia Sotomayor was announced as Supreme Court justice nominee, the state of California voted and decided to uphold last falls proposition 8 decision as voted by the public. Ironically, here in Memphis on the very same day, Black preachers who almost always vote Democratic, along with a very Conservative White County Commissioner held a rally in protest at City Hall.

They were protesting a city ordinance which would create anti-discrimination protection to the LBGT community in the area of employment here in Shelby county Tennessee. If you remember, the prop 8 vote it was said to be largely determined by the Black vote. This is something conservatives pushed, and to me it still sounds like bullshit. Actually it is convenient to have Black people as the scapegoat as always. However, when I see Black preachers in my city in solidarity with republicans on the issue of anti-discrimination laws for the LGBT community I have to wonder.

What’s with the Black preachers and homosexuality?

A few weeks ago in Washington D.C. the city voted unanimously to recognize same sex marriages that have been performed in the states in the union where these civil unions are legal and recognized. The lone dissenter in a 12-1 vote on this was former D.C. Mayor, Marion Barry. He said that he felt a lot of pressure from the preachers in the city and as a result he cast his vote opposing it. Obviously he wasn’t lying because there was an angry mob of preachers at City Hall after the votes were cast. I guess when you get caught on tape smoking crack you gotta do what you gotta do to stay on God's good side. So what does D.C. and Memphis have in common? Well, both cities are majority African American. Yes, this would lead anyone to conclude that Black people may have a problem with homosexuality.

So again I ask: what’s with the Black preachers, the Black community and homosexuality?

I would really like to hear your honest opinions and answers to these questions in your commentary. Me personally, I don’t understand it. Well, actually I do, but me being me, I don’t get the hypocrisy of it all. I mean let’s be real Black community: just like everybody has a crackhead in their family, or a cousin “Junebug”, everybody has a gay cousin. Uh huh, yeah, and don’t be looking at me all crazy; yeah I see that side-eye you’re giving me. Uh huh, tell the damn truth! Everybody had that one effeminate cousin who liked to play with dolls, play hopscotch, and do that Double-Dutch jump rope thing instead of “traditional” sports. So why act like this is something new? What, it’s cool to be “girly” as a kid just as long as you don’t grow up and still “choose” to be? Wait hold up, I’m not sure if that’s even right because recently those “girly” boys have been bullied to the point where they commit suicide.

[Insert Blank Stare]

Now I know that not all Black people go to church. Yup and there’s no way that the Black church is that powerful so as to create this “taboo” associated with homosexuality. Can somebody tell me where this is all coming from? However, I don’t know what’s up with these Black preachers. I mean, is there some “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in the church when it comes to homosexuality? For real though! How are they gonna come out slamming same sex marriage, anti-discrimination laws and shit, when the dude who is the choir director is gay? Aww c’mon people, don’t act like I’m making this shit up! You’ve been to church, and you’ve seen it. You’re not gonna tell me that the gay choir director thing is just an act this dude pulls only on a Sunday.

Nope I’m not buying it, and I’m not gonna believe that Black preachers accept homosexuality only if you have musical talent. If I remember correctly, wasn’t it the church that was instrumental in the fight for equality such as voting rights and stuff like that? That said, what is wrong with fighting for the equal rights of another minority group of people in this country? Ok yeah, so you may say that their fight is nothing compared to being sprayed with water hoses, or getting a chunk of your ass bitten off by racist German Shepherds. Yes I get that. However, didn’t Martin Luther King Jr say an injustice anywhere should be recognized and met with positive action?

I could be wrong; he may not have said that. My bad; Martin Luther King Jr. only spoke up for Black people and nobody else. Oh well, thank God that he did, because if he didn’t have the courage to speak up for Black people only, as he did, it may still be illegal for Barack Obama’s parents to be married. Or, the new Federal Hate Crime Bill would not have provisions to help protect the LGBT community from the bigots in this country.

Imagine that…

ADDENDUM:I say these preachers have the right to protest. But until churches start paying taxes, they need to shut the fuck up! I mean really?!! What ever happened to the separation of Church & State? What ever happened to the true prophetic leaders who were about the advancement of equality for all men per the constitution? It's a damn shame that people do not know the history of marriage, but yet say it's something handed down as a "gift" from God. In the end, I think it's foolish to hide behind the Bible -- a book that was commisioned to be published by King James, he who himself was a known homosexual. Look it up if you don't believe me.

IF YOU'RE AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE YOU'RE GAY..(LOL)

Allow me to weigh in on this Gay issue. You know, proposition 8 in California has been a hot topic. Hot enough to spark protests all across the country. I've read many a blog about the issue all across the blogosphere, but I have yet to actually speak on it. As some of you who have been around me for some time may know, I consider myself to be somewhat of a progressive mind. So having said that, I think most of you already know where I stand on the issue. For those of you that don't know...

I'M ALL ABOUT GAY & LESBIANS BEING ABLE TO BE MARRIED...

AND RECOGNIZED AS SUCH IN THE EYES OF THE LAW...

THE SAME WAY TRADITIONAL HETEROSEXUAL COUPLES HAVE BEEN!

Unfortunately, there are alot of people who don't think like me. Unfortunately, some people are just bigots as my brother Eddie pointed out last week on his blog ("If You're Against Gay Marriage, You're A Bigot"). But you know me, I'll always point out the hypocrisy that is the United States Of America. Like it or not, thats what I do, and that's what my third eye in effect is for. Without it, I'd be lost in this world, or forced to accept whatever I'm told as the truth, or "the way it is and should be". Another interesting read on this subject was done by Siditty("Proposition 8 Passed, And Black People Are To Blame?"), a sister with a good head on her shoulders, who always presents great blog topics. On this one, she laid it down you hear me? And lastly before moving along, you guys have to checkout Kit aka Keep It Trill's entry on the subject as well ("Proposition 8 Ban On Gay Marriage: When The Yes We Can Crowd Said No You Can't"). I urge you guys to be sure to give these blogs the nod, and even add them to your blogroll if you haven't all ready. They may not be "kid tested" but they are "RiPPa Approved".

So lets talk about gay marriage.

Do you know that 20% of all married people in America are cousins?

Did you know that?

READ IT HERE

Now, don't think for a minute that they all live in the back hills of Kentucky, Virginia or Georgia and are all rednecks. Yes I know that's the first thing that comes to mind when you think about the subject of cousins being married. Trust me, even I have a hard time with getting the image of "Jethro Bodine" and "Ellie Mae" getting butt naked and doing the nasty. But the facts are, they do it. Not only do they do it, but their "union" is recognized by the gov't. Now, this isn't permissible by law in every one of the 50 states. But its permissible in enough of them to make up the 20% statistic of all married people.

But something like this is taboo in our society just like gay marriages. Its enough of a taboo that the religious right raised enough of a bitch about it, that George Bush won the elections in 2004 because of it. Its so much of a taboo that the religious right once again appealed to the fear and ignorance of many to get Proposition 8 passed in California. The sad thing about it, is that it was legal for them to get married, but now they're not? This is California remember? The same state where its legal, and has been for a long time to have a doctor prescribe you weed. This is something that's not widely practiced everywhere else, but in California your doctor can give you a pass to purchase a dime bag but you can't get married if you're gay? Yes folks, the same California where if it wasn't for the weirdos, the rest of the world would would not be entertained. Personally, being a New York City transplant, I always thought California was full of fake ass people. But even in thinking that, I always applauded them for being the most liberal state in the union. Well, that plus the fact that they corner the market on the porn industry helped as well for me.

But yet the religious right targets the gay community. How come they don't spend millions as they have in an attempt to stop cousins from being able to get married. Why don't they do that? I mean, they're so "moral" and all...why not? Seems like the same people who are against abortion would be against inbreeding and the production of kids with birth defects. But no, instead, they are against same sex marriages when neither one of them (the sexes involved) are able to have normal kids naturally as do heterosexual couples . Well, that's unless you're the pregnant man and his wife, but that's besides the point. Oh yeah, shout out to Arkansas for voting to prevent gay couples to adopt kids and be foster parents as well.

IF JESUS LOVES THE LITTLE CHILDREN DOES THIS PISS HIM OFF?

The bottom line, its hypocrisy, and discriminatory...period! Its not right that they deny these people the right to a civil union, but yet allow cousins to be married. Allow it enough that inbred marriages account for 20% of all married couples. To me, that's whats wrong with America. Aside from the hypocrisy, there are just too many stupid people alive who through their fears are motivated to vote against their own principles. I'm seriously begining to think that some of these said stupid people are infact products of inbreeding. And whats worse, is that said stupid people are always easily influenced by the CHRISTIAN church because anything else would be too much like they do in Islam or other cultures. Having said that, I wonder if anyone can tell me the sex of God, or his sexual preference.

In closing, I say until you stop the continued growth of the inbred community because of the "immorality" of the practice (currently its legal for 1st cousins to marry in 20 states), they should allow same sex marriages all across this country. Either that, or they do something about inbred couples first. If they do, there'd be less people like Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity running around on on our streets, on our airwaves, and that would be a good thing. But then again, if there were no inbreeding or cousins having sex or getting married, the movie "Deliverance" would not have been made. And that would suck because that's one of my favorite movies of all time. Come to think about it, wasn't that movie filmed in Georgia? And was there not a scene in the movie where one of the inbred rednecks raped one of the city boys?

Hmmm...

No wonder Atlanta is the Black gay capital of the United States.

Hopefully there are no Black gay rednecks running around down there.

That state has given us much bullshit for too long dammit.
