Black guy with a gun at an Obama town hall meeting? We don't believe you; you need more people! (UPDATE: He IS a plant)

Last week when I suggested that town hall meetings on health care reform should go light on the presence of gun totting "Elmer Fudds". And instead have my man "O-Dog" of Menace II Society show up with a gun, this is not what I had in mind:

It is my firm belief that this dude was a plant. Yes, I seriously think he was picked up at the Rent-A-Negro store somewhere in Arizona, and I'm willing to bet that John McCain was the one to do it. After all, Arizona is his home state, no? Considering that much of the protests have been staged and anti-reform protesters have been brought in from other cities, that's going to be my belief about this guy. I'm sorry, but that brotha was a little too calm for me to believe otherwise. I dunno, maybe it was the tie and Roger from What's Happening glasses that gave him the confidence. I'm just sayin', you know how smart brothas have been standing up to law enforcement lately and making the news.

Speaking of confidence, when interviewed by The Arizona Republic, he refused to give his name. Not only that, when asked why he felt it necessary to pack his AR-15 assault rifle, he responded, "Because I can do it," and, "In Arizona, I still have some freedoms." Listen here Black people. Before you Negroes get too happy and think Arizona is the land of milk, honey, and Negro freedoms. Remember that those muthaf*ckas raised hell back in the day about recognizing Martin Luther King day as a national holiday.

And personally this attempt to fool me pisses me off and is insulting; especially since the media all focused on the Black guy with a gun rather than the other men reported to be openly packing heat as well. Shit, if they wanted to convince me that this Negro was real the least they could have done was put a doo-rag on his head, throw some gold in his mouth, and have him hugged up next to a White girl. Sorry, but the Black Panther in Birkenstocks thing just wasn't working for me.

I Am Not a Nigger!

I have to admit, like most of you who read this blog and comment, I'm often cynical about our youth. Yes, just like most of you I shake my head when there is a news story which involves their behavior. With that said, it felt good reading about the actions of a few students of Berkely High School out in California last Friday.

BERKELEY, Calif.--Some 300 students protested against racism June 5 at Berkeley High School, in the midst of preparation for finals and presentations of final projects.

The protest was organized by the Black Student Union in response to two racist images placed on Facebook. One image was of a Black student with the word n----, and the other was a doctored photo of a Black teacher in chains.

The group of almost exclusively Black students protested twice during the school day. In the morning, they wore small signs on their chests reading "I am not a n-----." In the afternoon, the students marched back and forth through the halls for about half an hour, ending their protest with a sit-in and speeches in the entrance of a central classroom building.

The demands of the Black Student Union include ethnic studies as a requirement for graduation, reinstating a full African American studies department, hiring more Black teachers with student input, implementing cultural awareness training for students and teachers, and setting up truth and reconciliation forums for perpetrators of hate crimes or disrespect because of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or disability.

Berkeley High is a large urban high school of 3,100 known for its academic achievement and its student diversity. White students are a plurality, but not a majority. Black students are the second-largest group, with about a third of the population.

One of the stated goals of BHS is to overcome the equity gap (also known as the achievement gap) between white students and students of color. One big step toward this goal is to put the demands of the BSU into place and incorporate an understanding of race and racism into the life of the school.

All members of the BHS community will benefit from and should support these demands. [Source]

With these kids taking a stand, and realizing the effects of activism, all I can say is that all is not lost. It's good to know that there are kids out there who care, and are not afraid to protest or demonstrate an act of Democracy 101. The children are indeed our future, and we should never forget that. Don't give up folks, and do continue to work and inspire our youth to affect change in whatever way you can because all is not lost.

HANGIN OUT WITH DEMOCRATS IN DENVER

Ok, so I've been away for a while; a week to be exact. So where have I been? I went to Denver to the DNC. Yup thats right. What? Did you think that I, the Happy Negro, was gonna miss that event?? It was off the hook up there. it was a city full of political energy. And I've returned to you folks even more inspired than ever, and with alotta shit to talk about.

I was hoping to blog from the event, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to. Yup, they locked me up y'all. Ain't that some shit? They locked me up at one of the most historic events in Black history, or more specifically, American history. Truthfully, thats the reason I even went; I'm not even a democrat nor am I a republican. But, I guess the police in Denver hasn't seen it as such by locking up protesters the way they have this week.

You guys know I've been outspoken on this forum, and my attendance at the DNC, could only serve similarly to address some of the issues of the day. There were hundreds of people like myself who used the opportunity for civil protest who were arrested like me. People who used the opportunity to stand up, and be the voices of Americans. As some of you were dazzled by the eloquent speeches, people like me, where on the outside fighting the system which was beautiful. It was beautiful because thats what America is about...

FREEDOM!

Just like all the people protesting the war in Iraq, and Afghanistan, I too was free to protest. I too, was free to protest the lack of fried chicken in Denver. Yeah, I know its in Colorado where the Rocky Mountains lie. Its also the home of Coors beer and not Old English Eight Hundred. But you'd think that with thousands of Black people coming to town for the week, they'd have more fried chicken. I mean hell, the convention had many cooperate sponsors. You think they could at least had Popeye's or KFC represent the way AT&T did. AT&T shelled out big dollars to have their names plastered everywhere, and the democrats allowed it. The least they could have did with Obama being the first Black nominee is to have fried chicken.

Oh well, so much for Corporate America not having an influence in politics. I guess at the end of the day corporations are as American as baseball, apple pie, and politics, and thats something that not even Barack Obama can change.
