A Hanging Noose at Work: Just a Fun Example of "Workplace Hijinks"?? (Or, is it the FDNY or the KKK)

Gregory Seabrook, an electrician for almost 20 years with the FDNY found a nasty surprise waiting for him at his work locker last week - a three foot long noose. It seems like some of his racist co-workers were perturbed by a discrimination complaint Seabrook filed in December. And of course, nothing disproves a discrimination complaint like a good ole fashioned noose, right??

"There's an ominous message behind it," lawyer Stephen Jackson said of the nearly 3-foot-long noose, which he plans to display at a press conference today and then hand over to authorities.

The noose is "elaborately constructed" and tied in a "monkey knot," Seabrook's lawyers say.

"That was a type of weapon used as a flogging knot to beat slaves," Jackson said. "It's very thick and very hard and it's designed to cause injuries."

Seabrook, who is black, and four other minority electricians filed complaints with the New York State Division of Human Rights, charging the Fire Department overlooks minority electricians for overtime opportunities and promotions.

Four electricians filed complaints in October, while Seabrook filed in December, the lawyers say.

An FDNY spokesperson said he had no knowledge of the noose incident or the discrimination complaints, which he said are kept private while under investigation.

Seriously, what kind of idiots believe that threatening a man with a symbol of their racism is an effective method of getting a discrimination lawsuit dropped? Did they really think that Mr. Seabrook would see the noose and decide that his discrimination complaint was not worth pursuing? After almost twenty years, this man finally decided to speak up and seek compensation for the discrimination he has been experiencing on the job, a move that, despite its correctness, is bound to make him less popular with his co-workers. That shows bravery. So, did these bigots really think they could threaten him into silence?

Of course, as expected, the comments that follow the original article give us a glimpse into the racist mindset of the average American. The accusations that this man planted the noose himself came right on cue. He is called a crybaby. One commenter basically said that people "play around" at work, and that "hijinks occur", as if a noose is just a fun joke. And of course, there were the comments about how Mr. Seabrook "played the race card" by filing his suit against the FDNY. Oh, and the pièce de résistance... one enlightened soul wrote "HE IS LUCKY HE WASN'T IN THE NOOSE !!"

When Keeping it Racist at the Hookah Bar Goes Wrong

I haven't been in a nightclub or bar in quite some time, but I'm sure things haven't changed that much from my clubbin' days. I'm sure the guy who looks like somebody's perverted but-I'm-still-cool uncle still shows up sporting a jheri curl; and, I'm sure that the one drunk dude bound to catch a bad one every week, hasn't learned his lesson from his last beat-down. The years may change, but the characters stay the same, folks.

Speaking of which, checkout what happened to Kevin Morris, of West Haven, Connecticut, while out at a Hookah Bar last week. No joke, this is one of those "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong" skits straight out of Chappelle Show; only difference, this isn't some well written hilarious made up sketch for TV.

Last Thursday Morris swaggered into the Fire & Ice Hookah Lounge on Campbell Avenue in West Haven. Just what happened next isn't entirely clear since there appears to be only one press account of the incident -- and that one limited in detail. But after entering the Lounge, in the words of Amanda Pinto of the New Haven Register, Morris began "shout[ing] profanities and racial epithets at a group of black and Arabic people."

Pinto doesn't say what the epithets were. And it's not entirely clear what the clientele is or what kind of place the Fire & Ice Hookah Lounge is. But one thing's clear: it ain't a mosque. And while Middle East-themed and seemingly patronized by at least some people of Middle Eastern descent, the presence of the belly dancers, "Gina" and "Katie," who perform on Friday evenings, suggests that if it caters to Muslims, it's not for the particularly devout [..]

[...] In any case, Morris comes into the Lounge shouting his epithets, apparently really drunk and at some point tries to grab the bartender by the throat or strangle him or something. But things did not go well for Morris. The folks in the establishment were not interested in that kind of an evening and proceeded to administer Morris a serious beating. As Pinto put it, Morris "was punched in the face by at least one of the people he was shouting at" and when police finally arrived he was "bleeding profusely from the face."

Morris was treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital and charged with 3rd degree intimidation due to bias and 2nd degree breach of peace. He is still in police custody. (source)

 I'm not a violent person, nor do I condone acts of violence; but, I damn sure wish I could have been there to witness this. Seeing some drunk idiot get knocked the fuck out in a bar or club is way better than must see TV.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure this clown didn't learn anything, and it's good to know that he'll live to receive another asswhoopin, at another day and time. Oh well, you know what they say: punks jump up to get beatdown:

Passion of the Racist Mel Gibson

My aunt would drool when you said the name Mel Gibson. You know she's the one who would kill and steal for a white man to suit her. When speaking about him she would always emphasize that he was a good Catholic who had many babies and stayed married as if he would have a kid with her.

Well, that was before he ditched his old lady for a younger baby mama who decided to reveal the true Mel after she couldn't stand to fuck him anymore for the chump change his wife left him. But my aunt would probably still defend him to the core.

So let's see. Gibson has clearly stated that he loathes Jews, Blacks and now Latinos. What a small world he has created for himself.

I'm not surprised. Hey, he was reared in Austrailia for some of his formative years and they're known for being vehemently racist and faithful domestic abusers. Ask the Aborigines.

But this is Hollywood folks. He is mild in comparison to some of the people making major decisions. You know the same folk who cried during the movie Avatar, swearing it was nothing short of a love story as opposed to another "White man saves the day" flick. Then in a heart beat they would cut the funding of a great movie staring great black actors without having to go through the backlot of Tyler Perry (pause, no homo).

All Gibson needs is a good ass whoopin, some days in rehab and a talk with Tim Wise, then inner circles of Hollywood will let him back in.

Why you should care about Slim Thug's assault on Black Women

I haven't been on Twitter much lately because I'm tired from the joy that is my third pregnancy, but I logged on to see that Fresh (@Freshalina) from Crunk and Disorderly posted an excerpt of an opinion piece failed rapper Slim Thug (pictured above on the left) did for Vibe.com.

He's a moron of epic proportions, but I was able to syphon out what he was trying to say in the beginning. I knew, however, that the "Shit-on-Black-Women" parade would begin posthaste. He did not disappoint. Do the stupid ever?

South African White Supremacist Leader Gets His Karmic Due

It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy...

Followers of South Africa's slain white supremacist leader Eugene Terreblanche said Sunday they blame a fiery youth leader for spreading hate speech that led to his killing, amid growing racial tensions in the once white-led country.



Terreblanche was bludgeoned to death by two of his farm workers Saturday in an apparent dispute over wages. The 69-year-old was leader of the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging movement, better known as the AWB, that wanted to create three all-white republics within South Africa in which blacks would be allowed only as guest workers.



Andre Nienaber, a member of the group and a relative of Terreblanche, said he believed his death was "as a result of Julius Malema's hate speech and direct orders in the media to 'shoot the Boers dead.'"



A symbol of white resistance to democratic black majority rule, he had lived in relative obscurity in recent years but had not changed his views.



He revived the AWB in 2008 and had rallies that drew growing crowds whom he wooed with his declaration that white South Africans are entitled to create their own country, a fight he declared he would take to the International Court at The Hague.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.  Don't you love how his privilege made him feel the need to be an activist for Afrikaners?  Whites entitled to their own country?  Well, shit...  The Boers have no room to talk.  They literally went IN to another country, fought those pesky "kaffir" people, enslaved and imposed apartheid.  "Manifest Destiny" had NOTHING on these cats. 

It's not like they sailed their little asses to Antarctica and colonized a piece of uninhabited land.  That would've been creating their own country.  No, they stole an already sovereign country from its rightful owners.

Back to Terreblanche.  This is where karma comes in.  In 1997, Terreblanche was jailed for the attempted murder of a black security guard and the assault of a black gas station worker.  What a gem to humanity!

I think it fitting that he reaped the seeds of hatred and discontent that he was instrumental in putting down.  There are so many people who are still missing their family members who were kidnapped and murdered Jim Crow style in South Africa. 

You live by the sword, you die by the sword. 

This also goes to show how much work South Africa still needs when black South Africans are still disenfranchised and marginalized.  It is clear that the people that have the power don't have their interest at heart. 

Glenn Beck, White Culture, and Knowing When to Play Dumb

Glenn Beck might be an asshole, or play a clown on television. But best believe, he’s not an idiot – he knows where his bread is buttered. Sure some of you may think he was being his normal self – an asshole – when he refused to answer Katie Couric’s question as to what exactly is “White Culture”. Don’t think for a minute that this guy didn’t know what he meant when he said what he said about the current president. He knew full well what he meant when he said that president Obama has a “deep-seated hatred for White culture.”

So why didn’t he just answer the question? He did not answer because he has lost enough ad revenue due to the activism of colorofchange.org. Yes, and he isn’t trying to lose anymore than he has. To date, he has lost about 50% of his sponsorship for his show. Bottom line: Glenn Beck is just like everybody else in this country – he’s a slave to the almighty dollar. Which when you think about it, happens to be the very reason he’s on the air. That said, for his sake, it was best that he not answer the question so as to give those colored Negroes who love change more fuel as his pockets are becoming deflated. I'm willing to bet if he was asked just what white culture is not, he would have had a lot to say.

QUESTION(S): What is white culture? Is it really white culture considering that much of it has been “stolen” from other cultures?

DID THEY REALLY LOOK PAST RACE?

Ok, so you folks know that I'm proud because of the fact that the next president is gonna be a Black man, right? You guys know this especially if you've been around my page for some time now. Well, I've been observing comments from people all across the blogosphere, and the one thing that stands out, is that many people are saying that they're proud of our country because they looked past his race and voted for him.

Did they really?

Now, I'm not trying to trivialize Obama's accomplishment, or take away from the historic nature of it. However, I've been thinking about this: Did the electorate really look past his race? Or did we have no other choice given the state of the economy, combined with John McCain's inability to truly address our needs as the world comes crashing down around us financially.

I really would like you to think about this for a few and lemme know what you think in your commentary. Like I said before, this is in no way an attempt to take away from the historic significance of his election. Its merely an attempt to look back and break it down for what it was. My concern is that today, while some of us still celebrate this victory, others are gonna look to this as its being advertised. The last thing I'd hate to see is people coming to the conclusion that we do live in a "post racial" society given his success to date. Oh and please don't give me that "we've come a long way" talk because I already know that we have.

I'm looking for an honest dialogue.

Thats right, they're not all racist. So, to categorize "them" as all being racist ignorant fools is wrong. Matter fact, all generalizations are stupid when you really think of it. Ok, so obviously, the McCain campaign has been purposely negative in the last few weeks. And yes, much of what we've seen in the media paints his campaign negatively. But even in all of that, its important, in an attemot to promote fairness, that I present this clip to you readers.

Now, what you have just seen was put together by an journalist working with an independent news media outlet. Having said that, one can only understand why something like this is not reported in the mainstream media. In other words, its more profitable for the corporate backed media to push negative stories as they have. Now, again, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the McCain campaign hasn't been negative, or motivating their base with negatism. I am however saying that there are people who support McCain who are able to think for themselves, and are willing to speak out against idiots like the folks distributing those bumperstickers at the rally.

Its important to note, that the people who spoke out were both christian and muslim. And thought they support John McCain, they are able to see the reality of campaign bigotry. If only we could get more people in this country to think this way. Just remember this blog whenever you encounter the McCain supporters who you may come across who still think that Obama is a muslim with terrorist ties, as I have in recent days. The next time you encounter some idiot who says that, tell them that they're wrong. When they ask you how can you be so sure that he's not a muslim? Tell them that Jesus was a black man, and since he's the father of Christianity, there's no way Obama the magical negro can be muslim. Besides, there aren't any mulsim cats in the NBA that I know of, but yet we all cheer for them.
