Negrophobia: What if Shirley Sherrod was Colorblind? Would We be Talking about Her?

I caught this interview live as I was getting ready for my day. I gotta tell you, this interview really made my day. Firstly, I think she exuded much grace and charm, which given the "angry black woman" narrative that often dominates the media, is so welcomed in these times. I even mentioned to friend on twitter that maybe her ordeal was one of those necessary evils given the obvious silver lining found in the truth that was her message, then, and now.

The irony of her message, was that I recently received an email from a longtime friend who happens to be white. My friend is also an avid reader of this blog, and we've been friends for about sixteen years after being hired by myself, for our then corporate slave-master. So when I say that him and I go back some years and he knows me, that's not an understatement. Truth be told, I moved in with him after my first wife and I were separated.

So my buddy emails me to mention that he's probably not going to read my blog anymore because in his opinion, it has gotten a little bit too "kill whitey" for his taste. It was after reading my latest interview with Brother X-Squared, that he arrived at that opinion. When I read that, I laughed my ass off. I was still laughing my ass off when I responded to his email letting him know that Brother X-Squared wasn't real; it's satire.

Of course he had a good laugh himself and was relieved to know that I hadn't become one of those radical "we gotta kill Crackas," types. I was glad that he respected our friendship and my character enough to raise his concern; I truly was. But the only thing that bothered me in his initial email, was him mentioning the fact that he couldn't be down with all this "racial shit" because he's colorblind.

Now the only reason I'm bringing up the "I'm colorblind," thing, is because this is the second white friend who has said this to me in the last week. Usually when I hear the term colorblind used by a non-minority as an adjective describing themselves, I usually toss it up as being the difference between ignorance and apathy. Whenever someone says that to me, what I hear is, "I don't know, and I don't care," when it comes to racial issues.

Of course it's wrong for me to think that this represents the iniquitous nature of the person who proclaims colorblindness . But, I think it's as silly a defense as the "I'm not racist, I have black friends," cliche. Listen white people, take it from me: black people do not walk around in a state of paranoia as to whether their white friends are racist. Chances are, we would have known if you were and we wouldn't associate with you.

That is, unless you've got some money; then...

Listen, the truth is, we do not live in a colorblind world, or society. Hell, Stevie Wonder was born blind but I'm sure even he knows what the word nigger means, or how historically the issue of race has played out in the annals of American history. Now that I think about it, maybe that's why he makes beautiful music that brings people of all walks of life together.

Having said that, maybe this is the reason Shirley Sherrod does what she does, or has done, as a civil rights activist. She didn't exactly defiantly sit on a bus and became famous. But for every celebrated and well recognized hero of that era, like Shirley, there are countless unknown and unsung heroes who championed the cause.

Could you imagine how the world would be without her if she was colorblind? Where would be as a society if in the face of racist ideologues we all chose to be colorblind? In the interest of freedom, justice, and equality, how exactly can we come together and make a difference socially should we all walk around colorblind? Sorry, I'm not buying the "I'm colorblind," rhetoric: and I'm glad there there are people among us able to see.

People who aren't afraid to make a difference:

The 'Angry Black Man' Defense of Obama's BP Response is a Waste of a Race Card

I never thought I'd see the day that I actually agreed with Bill O'Reilly on something, and publicly admit it. Sure I might lose some of my street cred and a few ghetto passes for this one, but I think he's right. Yeah, I know that's strange coming from a veteran racism chaser such as myself. But defending the criticisms of Obama's lack of an emotional response to the disaster in the Gulf by throwing down the "Angry Black Man" race card is foolish. If anything, what it says, is that the president is weak and incapable on leading because he happens to be a black man:

I'm sorry, I'll defend Barack Obama from obvious racial attacks from the likes of assholes on the right. You know the stuff I've highlighted on this site for the last two years. However, I refuse to accept the argument that suggests that he cannot afford to show anger towards BP and their obvious incompetence, for fear of being seen or perceived as an angry black man. Especially when said black man defied all the odds to become America's first black president, who has taught us to take responsibility, and shed all excuses.

You see, when you throw out race cards when it's not necessary, you open up doors for slave catchers like the black dude in the video above to run his bullshit rhetoric that even Bill distanced himself from. Listen, America is angry about the fifty plus days of oil spewing into the gulf; and rightfully so. If Barack Obama stood up and showed his disgust about what's happening at the hands of BP, nobody white is going to stand up and criticize him or judge his behavior to be typical of black men, or any black person in America.

The sister on the panel has a valid point as does Jonathan Capehart in his article as far as the stigma of the angry black man or woman. However, in this case, I just don't see where being cautious of this is applicable. The truth is, we all want this crap in the gulf to come to and end; and if it means gettin' a little gully and snatching some collars, then so be it. It doesn't matter whether the president is black or white, what matters is that the American people feels a connection between themselves and the president.

The real irony of this is as Bill points out, president Obama has responded to his critics with a shift in tone and presentation. This is the very reason the administration is pulling out all the stops in regaining lost political capital, with his current tour of the gulf states today and tomorrow. But hey, don't tell that to the some of his strongest supporters who refuse to be critical of the man they voted for to run this country and lead the free world. A man who they themselves looked past color and voted for based on his capability to do a better job than his opponent.

Hey, Gabourey Sidibe: Tell them to kiss your entire fat black ass!

The last thing I need right now is to get my blood pressure all worked up. So for this one I'll be nice and just say that if I was Gabourey Sidibe I'd tell muthaf*ckas to kiss my entire fat black ass. Of course I understand that  she won't actually get all Della Reese on folks. But this is why I have a blog; and this is why I'm about to get medieval on that ass as a voice of reason with much righteous indignation. The nerve of these people coming out of the woodwork offering her advice on what she has to do as if they really give a damn about her and any potential success acting or otherwise.... ole cracka-ass-crackas!

Offering her "help" in the form of a one year supply pf diet pills as the CEO of AcaiSupply.com did recently, "in return for her glowing testimonial after she sheds her unwanted pounds," is an insult [click to read his open letter to her here]. Yeah, and supposedly he's worried about her health and not the bottom line which is profits, right? OK, so she didn't win the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Precious. But let them tell it, it was because she's a talentless fat bastard who will never work again in Hollywood. Any day now it wouldn't be a surprise if a privileged melanin deficient asshole other than Howard Stern publicly suggests that she bleaches her skin.

Shit, one would think that Sidibe showed up on the red carpet with a bucket of KFC, hooked up to an I.V. that pumped BBQ sauce into her arm in need of an intervention the way "certain people" are talking. But hey, white folks are into saving Negroes these days thanks to Sandra Bullock and the movie The Blindside, so I guess this is all to be expected.

Well RiPPa they are kinda telling the truth. Black women have a hard time as is getting jobs in Hollywood and being the new fat kid in town sure as hell don't help much. Hollywood ain't too welcoming of black women or black folks much less the fat ones. Shit, the only fat black bitch they love is Oprah and you damn well know that!

Of course I know that, but why does it have to be this fat black chick that catches hell? I mean I hate to think that people are of the idea that Gabourey is in fact a fried chicken stealing, low self esteem having, uneducated fat black chick in real life. I know life sometimes imitates art, but damn; I mean what the fuck! Is it too much to celebrate her success thus far without throwing that other shit into the mix? What, Hollywood ain't in love with the Hattie McDaniel types unless they're playing 'Mammy', and serving white folks in movies?

My 16yr old and I had a conversation this past weekend. A conversation where she revealed to me that for a long time she has seen herself in the mirror as an "ugly black beast." Mind you, this is the very same 16yr old who has serious aspirations of becoming an actress and standing on stage holding an Oscar one day. Her mother, Mrs. RiPPa, seems to think that it is just a phase that all girls go through, but I think differently. I happen to think that her feelings have developed over time as she has been inundated by images of a "certain standard" of beauty. And obviously that's a lot for an impressionable teenager to internalize without feeling any pressure to look and feel adequate.

Ultimately, I think that what we're seeing right now with Gabourey Sidibe, speaks volumes of a larger problem or issue in our society. A problem I might add, that no amount of diet pills or exercise can change.

I'll let you figure out just what that is.

The Mis-Education of the Neo-Negro: Yaphet Kotto, Gucci Mane & Harry Reid

I need to work on perfecting my "Negro Dialect" - can't have Rod Blagojevich outshine me. Besides, it's not like I have aspirations of becoming POTUS anytime soon, nor do I have plans of bleaching my skin. Damn you RiPPa, you won't let this Negro sh*t die won't you?! Nope because the word Negro isn't racist, and unlike my Neo-Negro buddies (yeah, that's my new soon to be copyrighted word ), I refuse to allow the white media, liberal or otherwise, trick me into believing that they actually care to protect or promote political correctness and a meaningful discourse on race.

Sorry, I'm not gonna fall for the banana in the tailpipe or the tricknology my friend. Besides, you wanna know how I know the word Negro isn't racist? I never get the spell check squiggly lines as I do when I type Barack Obama. However, I wanna talk about what Senator Harry Reid said; in particular, let's talk about what has everybody's draws up their asses. Yep, let's talk about light-skinned blacks having a more favorable advantage for success in any endeavor especially if they do not posses that "no Negro dialect" as is the perception.

See the guy in the picture above? That's Yaphet Kotto; he's an actor. Haven't seen him in years, but you might remember him from back in the day if you're my age or older. Like Barack Obama, he's American, but his father was the Crown Prince of Cameroon, which makes him a Prince. Yes, just like Obama he is of direct African descent. As cultured as he is, having studied theater and all, but as dark as he is, do you think he would have a chance running for president? Well, he might given the fact of him being cultured and an actor; never mind him holding a gun and looking like a criminal, he played Othello for crying out loud. But what if he sounded like the rapper Gucci Mane, and his big lips proved to be a a speech impediment like that of "Dumb Donald" from the cartoon Fat Albert?

What if as a politician he spoke like this:

HP Webcams are NOT racist, & here's why...

So what's this story I hear about an HP webcam that doesn't recognize big noses, big lips, and gold fronts? I've read a few headlines in the blogosphere, and being the racism ambulance chaser I had to check it out:

The DC Sniper: Didn't take them long to kill this Negro

So Black people, who are we hatin' on this week? You people need to keep me up to date with that. Y'all still mad at Tyler Perry? The movie "Precious" is only showing on five screens so I know y'all ain't hatin' on him too bad. Is the whole "Good Hair" vs. "Bad Hair" thing still goin' on? Or wait, have y'all started talkin' shit about Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence making Black people look bad as they come out with that "Wanda" and "Shenene" movie? Please somebody tell me because it's been hard to keep up around here. Oh well, not even I can escape the haterism that befuddles us melanin afflicted peoples in North America. So since nobody is talkin' about this one I'll weigh in for a bit. I know, it's probably hypocritical of me, but yet people wonder why we struggle with Black on Black crime n' shit. Hell, Tyler Perry ain't gave no n*gger no gun.

Speaking of guns n' shit. Is it me or they was madd quick to execute the DC Sniper dude John Muhammad, or what? Wasn't it just last February they found him and that lil' dude sleeping in the car in DC at the Barack Obama inauguration? Damn they moved quick on this Negro. Which I'm kinda conflicted about because I'm not down with the death penalty. But then again, this fool had Negroes hanging their heads in shame for about a month when we found out he was Black. Which is kinda messed up because the minute we heard the muthafucka called the police asking for $1 million to stop picking folks off at the gas pump, we should've known then that he was Black - ex-military crazy white dudes don't ever ask for money, but a Negro will. Yep, give a n*gga some money and he'll do whatever you ask.

Nationally, it takes on average 153 months – almost 13 years – between sentencing and execution for death-row inmates, according to 2007 data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

The Supreme Court noted the accelerated pace of Muhammad's execution in its decision Monday not to hear his case or delay his execution.

"By denying Muhammad's stay application, we have allowed Virginia to truncate our deliberative process on a matter – involving a death row inmate – that demands the most careful attention," Justice John Paul Stevens wrote in a statement explaining the court's rejection of the Muhammad appeal. "This result is particularly unfortunate in light of the limited time Muhammad was given to make his case in the District Court."

Death-penalty expert Michael Radelet, a professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder, agrees that Muhammad's case is "quicker than most cases."- (Source)
I'm against the death penalty, and having said that, I'm a bit bothered right now. How come nobody is coming from all over the country protesting the execution of the DC Sniper n*gga (you know that's what "they" call him, right?) like they did for Tookie Williams in California a several years ago? I mean seems like if you're against the death penalty you won't miss an opportunity and use it for political expediency to advance your cause. I mean this n*gga didn't write any children books or nuthin (shit, he didn't have enough time to even do that!), but hell he served his country in the military unlike Tookie Williams who did nuthin but serve mayhem in the hood. Shouldn't that count for something?

What? Does he need to be shouted out on a rap song by Snoop Dogg before people get involved in his fight to stay alive? Not that I'm sayin they should give his ass a Swine Flu shot instead of whatever that other deadly shit they put in those lethal injections. I'm just sayin that I'm a lil' bit conflicted about this whole thing. I get the feeling that "certain people" are staying away from this one because, well, he killed a few white folks. Then there's that whole Muslim thing too, and that would probably explain just how fast he got to the front of the death chamber line. Shit, they'd probably execute Malik Hassan 20 minutes after he's found guilty for what he did at Ft. Hood!  Had John Muhammed killed nothing but Black people he might have lived on death row for decades. All in all, I think a lot of people are pretty happy that he's getting what he had coming to him. In the eyes of many justice is served I guess. Somehow I'm a bit bothered that it happened as quickly as it did.

I bet that DMX look-a-like rapist in Cleveland sits on death row for 20yrs...

He raped and killed poor Black women...

that should buy him some time...

Oh well, as Dave Chappelle would say...

peace n*gger

BREAKING NEWS: GOP claims Kunta Kinte as a Republican hero

Can one of you tell the GOP that the days of slavery are long gone? No seriously, somebody tell them that it's not cool for White folks to run around claiming ownership of Black people anymore. I'm not sure if America having its first Black president has anything to do with it entirely, but I'm willing to bet a smidgen of it does.

Today the Republican National Committee (RNC) unveiled its new website. Ironically and just in time for the major league baseball post season, added to their site as one of two dozen “GOP Hero” is Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson as you know, is credited for breaking the color barrier that was professional baseball. Just great, not only do us Negroes have to contend with the argument that Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican, now we have to add Jackie Robinson to the mix.

According to the site Jackie Robinson was a “Great Republican” who campaigned for Richard Nixon's presidential campaign in 1960. Oh, and let’s not forget that in 1964, he also supported New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller's campaign. He did both, but according to his autobiography “Jackie Robinson: A Biography,” by Arnold Rampersad, Jackie Robinson identified himself politically as a “registered independent”.

The book acknowledges Robinson's support of Republicans, but quoted Robinson, speaking in 1959, this way:

“I guess you’d call me an independent since I’ve never identified myself with one party or another in politics.” He was, in fact, a registered independent. But already Robinson had shown a clear disposition to support Republicans, and in particular Nixon.
Jackie Robinson also had to say this about the Republican Party after Barry Goldwater won the nomination over Rockefeller, when speaking about the GOP 1964 National Convention:

That convention was one of the most unforgettable and frightening experiences of my life. The hatred I saw was unique to me because it was hatred directed against a white man. It embodied a revulsion for all he stood for, including his enlightened attitude towards black people.

A new breed of Republicans had taken over the GOP. As I watched this steamroller operation in San Francisco, I had a better understanding of how it must have felt to be a Jew in Hitler’s Germany.
If Jackie Robinson was a Republican he damn sure didn't sound like it, did he? But hey, that's revisionist history for you. If Jackie Robinson was a “Great Republican Hero”, can you imagine what they'll be saying about George W. Bush in about another 50yrs from now? The irony of Robinson’s description of the party is that there isn't that much difference strategically by the GOP of today. They are as divisive now as they were back then, and they play on the further polarization of the nation for political expediency.

But I guess if you visit the site like I did, and you think like I think, you couldn't help but to laugh at how they painstakingly took care to be sure that they had a few minorities splashed on their hero page other than Michael Steele [Click here to check it out]. My spider sense is tingling and telling me that had John McCain won the presidency instead of Obama, they would give two shits about Jackie Robinson – or any other minority for that matter. One has to wonder how come they have yet to lay claims to Kunta Kinte.

The FBI pays White Supremacists to incite racial violence...

But they only prosecute them if they threaten the lives of White people?

Ok, hold up, wait, lemme check my back pocket to see if I can find a new race card. I’ve been pulling them out left and right for a while and I hate to approach another blog post without one. Ain’t nuthin more embarrasing than reaching for a race card when you don’t have one; ain’t that right former Memphis mayor Willie Herenton? Ok cool. Whew! I’m glad I found one; I thought I was out. So anyway, have you heard about this guy Hal Turner? Never heard of him? Oh ok. Well he’s this White Supremacist blogger, activist, ex-radio show from his basement having, one time FBI informant. Yeah, he’s done a lot to advance the cause of White Nationalists, all while being on the gov’t payroll as he supposedly helped them take down White Supremacist organizations. Isn’t that funny? A White Supremacist working for the gov’t to help take down White Supremacist groups by promoting White Supremacy? Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that Hal is currently in some jail cell awaiting trial after being arrested for sending death threats to a few politicians, judges, federal prosecutors who just so happen to be white. You know, important people who also work for the government like him.

In a recent article in the Associated Press, Katie Nelson wrote:

“Prosecutors have acknowledged that Turner was an informant who spied on radical right-wing organizations, but the defense has said Turner was not working for the FBI when he allegedly made threats against Connecticut legislators and wrote that three federal judges in Illinois deserved to die.

“‘But if you compare anything that he did say when he was operating, there was no difference. No difference whatsoever,’ [his lawyer] said.”
Sounds like the ultimate dream job doesn’t it? Talk about getting paid to do what you love; how can a brotha be down Uncle Sam? So where’s the race card RiPPa, and why did you have to even waste it on an asshole like Hal Turner? It’s not like we don’t know he’s not fond of Blacks, Jews, Hispanics, or green men from outta space. Yeah, I understand and you’re right, different people have acknowledged this very fact. But see, this isn’t about Turner; this is about the government. They paid Turner to say and do what he did. Yes, Hal Turner’s lawyer said recently, and prosecutors agreed, that Turner was “trained by the FBI on how to be deliberately provocative” and “worked for the FBI from 2002 to 2007 as an ‘agent provocateur’ and was taught by the agency ‘what he could say that wouldn’t be crossing the line.” Isn’t it ironic that while employed by the FBI, the number of White Supremacist groups have increased drastically?

So what the gov’t used him and flipped on him; big deal.

Well, how come they didn’t flip on him back in 2006 when he said that then Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (who is Black by the way) should be lynched on her way to the polls for being “a violent, Black, racist bitch.” An act which he also said would send a message to other “uppity” Blacks that “white people are tired of your bullshit, behave or die.” Oh, and lemme not forget to mention that he put McKinney's address out there on the internet on his site just like he did the federal judges. Let’s see, maybe Cynthia McKinney wasn’t important enough? Or could it be since his job was to say and do things to incite people to act as he was trained to do, could it be that “somebody” wanted Cynthia McKinney dead? Maybe I’m trippin’, but if threatening the lives of white politicians and federal judges is a crime. How come doing the same to a Black female sitting in Congress, isn't?

Damn, watch your back Barack…

A white man who was working for the U.S. Census bureau was found hanging from a tree in Clay County Kentucky with the words “Fed” scribbled on his chest. Who's to say that this was not an act sanctioned and paid for by tax payer dollars and motivated through the actions of somebody like Hal Turner? I tell you one thing for sure: whoever killed that poor guy wasn't Black. In Clay County Kentucky, or more specifically The Daniel Boone National Forest, the only Black person or people there, are the ghosts of those who were lynched and still hanging from trees. But yet Turner is now mounting the defense that he was just doing what he was paid to do?

Talk about that victim mentality...

Please don’t tell me I wasted my race card.
