Michael Steele: "I oppose the war and more troops in Afghanistan, but, err, not really."

In recent weeks the subject of Afghanistan has become a series of epic penis sword fights. Not to be left out of the mix is RNC Chairman Michael Steele; or more affectionately, Captain Coontastic. So here he is at a recent RNC fundraiser in Noank, CT., waxing poetic about Obama's war in Afghanistan.

Of course even if you so much as pay mild attention to politics, you'd know that whenever Steele speaks some famous dead white republican rolls in his grave, while people like me laugh hysterically. No shit, Steele is a gift from the political comedy Gods; and it's a shame he'll be gone next January.

But on this latest bit, he goes against republican warmongering ideologues in condemning the war in Afghanistan. A war that I too and many people are against, but as usual, Steele will be Steele:
"The [General] McChrystal incident, to me, was very comical. I think it’s a reflection of the frustration that a lot of our military leaders has with this Administration and their prosecution of the war in Afghanistan. Keep in mind again, federal candidates, this was a war of Obama’s choosing. This was not something that the United States had actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in. It was one of those areas of the total board of foreign policy [that was at least?] that we would be in the background sort of shaping the changes that were necessary in Afghanistan as opposed to directly engaging troops. But it was the President who was trying to be cute by half by building a script demonizing Iraq, while saying the battle really should in Afghanistan. Well, if he is such a student of history, has he not understood that you know that’s the one thing you don’t do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan? Alright, because everyone who has tried over a thousand years of history has failed, and there are reasons for that. There are other ways to engage in Afghanistan…"

Now, me being totally against the war in Afghanistan, I fully appreciate the general context of Steele's opinion (?). Yes, I do believe that it's a damn shame that this pointless war has surpassed the Vietnam war; and, has managed to have its bloodiest month to date as recent as last month, after all these years. Not only does the war continue to cost our most precious resources - the lives of brave men and women of the military. It continues as a never-ending money-pit in recessionary times unlike any other war or time in history:

So here we are today and the House has approved another $80 billion towards the war effort in Afghanistan; while 1.3 million unemployed citizens are left to worry about not being given unemployment extensions, while dickheads on Capitol Hill are on recess for the fourth of July holiday. So yes, Steele is right that the war and Obama's troop escalation is bullshit. However, I'm left to wonder what are his motives (like I really don't know) especially since Steele most recently stated that this war, was a war we could not afford to lose.

But I guess as Steele asserts; having a land war in Afghanistan is futile. This would explain why George Bush started the very same war with a naval blockade of all of Afghanistan's naval ports of entry. Yep, nothing like good Ole naval warfare strategy when ti comes to stopping the Taliban in those caves, right Michael Steele? I mean hell, it's about time we had a war to put those nuclear submarines to use, right?

Yep, nice try on the cleanup of your statements to your warmongering party affiliates for whom you do your best buck-dancing. Yep, the same crowd who are content to keep throwing money away on this war while unemployed citizens starve to death as a result of this recessionary nightmare and economic shitstorm.

Jig, baby, jig!
